about

This album is dedicated to the edge of my adolescence.
These songs were recorded in my last stages of being a teenager.
Upon meeting Smoov, I gave him a project titled “80’s Baby” to let him completely produce, but getting further into the creative process, we realized the project had two different sides.

Giving him the minimum of 30 songs I wrote to create homes for, I figured a double disc would be doing the most with not enough on the side, so… I split them up into two parts.

PART I: “Some Time In December, 1987” which symbolizes when I was conceived and the earlier stages of my teenage years: finding myself. Learning myself. KNOWING myself. Being introduced to a new me everyday and figuring out where to go next.

PART II: “80’s Baby” is closing out my teen years… turning 20, facing some demons head on that I felt I couldn’t handle before, saying goodbye to a way of life I’ve lived for 6 years and entering a new phase.

This part of the 80’s Baby series is very grungy.
One would suggest every track on the album is pretty much songs you would normally hear rappers on.
Part 2 is rather spaced out and experimental with remnants of vintage R&B.

Me and Mike’s musical marriage has become extremely unpredictable in every way to the point where neither one of us know what either of us will like… which happens to be one of my favorite relationships.

So… without further a due… I present to you the first installment of the “80’s Baby” series: “Some Time In December, 1987”.

Track Name: 80's Baby (Intro)
Once upon a time in 87
The child known as me was conceived
Humming in my mother’s womb tryna kill time
Hit a head note when I saw the light shine

Maybe… I was a little different
Growing up blind but I always had a vision
I’m not your ordinary guy
I’m more than my looks; it’s all about the mind

Just because I’m not shoving Jesus down your throat
Doesn’t mean I can’t lead sinners to the cross
Don’t be quick to judge my present state
Because I’ll read you like an assignment that was due yesterday

I wish my wife could be like my best friend
She doesn’t empathize, however she comprehends
(But most importantly) She makes me feel like a man

There are moments when I’m too transparent
So much there that you can’t handle
Let me state I’m a life artist
Now, Let me work these pipes and give these rhymes a rest
Track Name: DANGER!
[CHORUS]
Sickly addicted
Eyes remain closed because you are missing
You’ll see me again, soon or later
But if you can’t survive without me, you’re in serious DANGER!

[VERSE I]
I cannot be the root of your happiness
You need to learn how to be happy without me
Because if I’m the only thing that makes you smile
That can be a dangerous place to be

(What if I’m not around?
What if I don’t answer the phone?
Will you not know what to do?
This is why your joy must come from you)

[CHORUS]
Sickly addicted
Eyes remain closed because you are missing
You’ll see me again, soon or later
But if you can’t survive without me, you’re in serious DANGER!
Track Name: Prove Me Wrong
[VERSE I]
I swear I’m not being dramatic, bad things always tend to happen
The moment I give someone a chance, they never fail to leave me stranded
Which is why I’m waiting on someone to prove me wrong (WRONG!)
So I won’t continue to feel like love lets me down (DOWN!)

[CHORUS]
Somebody prove me wrong, I’m tired of being right
Someone prove me wrong because I’m always right

[VERSE II]
I almost want to give up, there’s only but so much disappointment I can take
I thought if I gave what I wanted, I would receive the same
(But life doesn’t always work that way because Karma seems to always be late)
I can only speak for me, so somebody prove me wrong, please!

[CHORUS]
Somebody prove me wrong, I’m tired of being right
Someone prove me wrong because I’m always right

[BREAK]
Somebody prove me (3x)
Somebody prove me wrong!

[CHORUS]
Somebody prove me wrong, I’m tired of being right
Someone prove me wrong because I’m always right
Track Name: Figure
[CHORUS]
I’m still trying to figure out what I did
To deserve you-- God what did I do?

[VERSE I]
I can feel my heartbeat in my throat
You consume my thoughts I thought you should know
You’ve managed to love me in spite of
I’m covered in bruises cuts and scraps because
(over and over and over with you I fall in love)

[CHORUS]
I’m still trying to figure out what I did
To deserve you-- God what did I do?

[VERSE II]
You accept all of me; every single bag
Trying to resist thinking about you severely hurts my head
I’m obviously sickly addicted to you
Pain tried to get past but couldn’t get through

[CHORUS]
I’m still trying to figure out what I did
To deserve you-- God what did I do?

[BRIDGE]
I still wanna know... I must find out
Why you love so much?

[CHORUS]
I’m still trying to figure out what I did
To deserve you-- God what did I do?

[SIDE NOTE☺]
Thanks for being YOU to ME.
Track Name: Standing in Line For The Club
[CHORUS]
Standing in line for the club… the club.
You know I hate it: Standing in line for the Club

[VERSE I]
Me and my crew; we got things to do
But they always wanna leave late to make an entrance
And I swear I kid you not as soon as we arrive
The line is wrapped around the entire building

(Oh, Clawd have mercy on my new dancing shoes)
I need to get up in this club and dance with you
Oh, Lord have every mercy that can fit on my soul
(Do you hear that? They playing my song) Better hurry up and let me get in before the track goes off

[B-SECTION #1]
I don’t know what I’m gonna do If can’t get in there and dance with you

[CHORUS: 3x]
Standing In Line…

[VERSE II]
I’m not the grand entrance type; I like to be on time
But tonight I’m carpooling with the late people
(And I’ll tell you one thing) we wouldn’t be late If I had been the one driving like usual

Oh, Lord have mercy on my soul (Out here with no jacket) - (why does the snow have to be so cold?)
(Oh, Clawd have mercy on my new do)
I just hope when I get in here, I see you

[B-SECTION #2]
I am really going through
(And I may trip out) if I don’t get in there and dance with you

[HOOK]
Standing in line for the club… the club

[The “Baby” by Brandy-esque break-down… Just Listen]
*Hits the Steve Harvey Gospel Chicken 2-Step*
Track Name: B.A.R.
[CHORUS]
All I wanna do is make you feel appreciated
Make up for the way you were mistreated
But all I do is compound the situation
And you end up worse than when you started

[VERSE]
You wanna see me again
I Hope your eyes are on their mark to catch a glimpse of me
You said “8”, but I came at 6:30
Why am I being punished if on time is late, but I’m on time if I’m early?

(Someone close the door, you’re letting all the demons in
Once this was a Holy place, but now it’s infested with sin)
I know you wanna see me again
But I think it would be best if your sight would end

[CHORUS]
All I wanna do is make you feel appreciated
Make up for the way you were mistreated
But all I do is compound the situation
And you end up worse than when you started

[EMPATHY & CONVICTION]
All I wanna do is make it better

[SIDENOTE:]
I had a dream last night I died When I awoke in death, I was awake in reality. Does this mean death is life?
Track Name: Streetlight (Interlude)
It's Time to Head Home.
The Streetlights are coming on.
Track Name: HEY YOU! (Letter To My Childhood)
[VERSE I]
Brace yourself, hold your breath
Later things are gonna get really bad
You’re gonna end up acting like your mother
But thinking JUST like your dad

People aren’t going to understand
And you’re gonna try your best to help them to
But the majority of that hard work will be in vain
Because you can make people do what they don’t want to

[CHORUS]
(Hey You)
Life has got it in for you, Be careful of the things you do
(Hey You)
Life has got it in for you. Don’t be afraid because you’ll make it through

[VERSE II]
You’re going to get your heart broken by your first love
All because the title of the relationship was misunderstood
You’re gonna settle for less than what you deserve
And once that ends, that’s when you’ll have truly learned

You’re never going to be perfect, but strive to be perfected
Because the surprises in life are so unexpected
Just trust in God, let him be your guide and you’ll be okay
So you can be a better me when you become my age

[CHORUS]
(Hey You)
Life has got it in for you, Be careful of the things you do
(Hey You)
Life has got it in for you. Don’t be afraid because you’ll make it through

[BRIDGE]
Don’t get weary; you’re stronger than you think
You have God on the inside of you. Open your eyes and see.
I know the things that life does hurts sometimes
(But I’m here for you) Everything will be beyond fine

[CHORUS]
(Hey You)
Life has got it in for you, Be careful of the things you do
(Hey You)
Life has got it in for you.
Don’t be afraid because you’ll make it through
Track Name: Silent
[VERSE I]
Lay your head in my lap and look up at me
Until I’m the last one you see before you go to sleep
Be still with me, hold my hand
You’ve given me what no one else has

Like falling too fast, loving too soon
My heart longs to spend time with you
I can be patient, just for you, but I can’t sit still…
My heart jumps and I have no choice but to move

[HOOK]
I just want to be in your presence
Be beside you, take you in; be silent
Track Name: SUCKER!
”Catch this tea…” – A. Rollins

If you asked for a sucker, but didn’t give a flavor
And got you a random color, would you not eat it after?
Or would you take what you could get? Beggars can’t be choosers
We can be more than friends, but less than lovers.

Beggars can’t be choosers…
Track Name: Victim
[CHORUS]
The victim will always remember
Any form of torture
The victim will always remember
What you did…

[VERSE I]
She cannot seem to get over
The boy in her life that hurt her
He took her innocence and then some
And didn’t look back after he was done

She cannot seem to get over
Her daddy not being there for her
She seems to always have her legs open
Because she missed out on imperative loving

[CHORUS]
The victim will always remember
Any form of torture
The victim will always remember
What you did…

[VERSE II]
I never possess the strength
To get over where I went
Something somebody did
I’ve tried to fight, but I just can’t forget

God, do something
It feels like it’s here for nothing
Ooh, my memory It’s torture
And it’s getting the best of me

[CHORUS]
The victim will always remember
Any form of torture
The victim will always remember
What you did…

[BRIDGE]
You can go through the rest of your life
Not remembering the moment on that day or night
But we will never forget what was done
Because we will always remain the victim

[CHORUS]
The victim will always remember
Any form of torture
The victim will always remember
What you did…
Track Name: What Have I Done With My Life?!
[VERSE I]
There's so many things I could name
That still haven’t been done--- what a shame
I feel like I’ve wasted so much time
I can’t go back because it won’t rewind

I know there’s nothing I can do about it now
Being depressed, upset and down
About what I could’ve done and didn’t makes it hard...
hard for me to smile

[HOOK]
Indeed, it’s my birthday
And I know I should be happy
But I feel like something’s’ missing
Maybe that’s why I feel empty

[VERSE II]
I’m in a state of disbelief
With myself-- with me
How could I just let time fly
and haven’t done that much with my life?

(I suppose I could start anew
since reliving my life I can’t do)
But there’s just something about today
that makes the sunshine turn grey

[HOOK]
Indeed, it’s my birthday
And I know I should be happy
But I feel like something’s’ missing
Maybe that’s why I feel empty

[BRIDGE]
I suppose this will teach me
(To seize opportunity)
Time wait for no man
And that includes me

[HOOK]
Indeed, it’s my birthday
And I know I should be happy
But I feel like something’s’ missing
Maybe that’s why I feel empty
